101st airborn

Jason
Summary: 101st airborne response and findings
June 23rd, 2008

I bought the 101st in feb of 08 and have never looked back. I traded in a mission x3 because it felt sloppy ,slow and had more creep at the end of the draw than I preffered. Not only that but the top idler wheel was a plastic bushing NOT a  bearing, thats a short cut in design quality to me. In any case The loud plunk you fellas are hearing is prob bc you dont have your string stopper set to where it gently touches the string at rest, this is very important. Its not near as loud as it sounds holding the bow than when you're standing 5-10 yds away its just a soft hum. Come on guys dont you remember the old bows 15 yrs ago and that damn "TWANG" they made? None of the bows today come anywhere near that now so how did we live with all that noise before?!    In any case I added some LS string leeches on the 101st and I swear it took the sound down by 10 dcbs at least. I also trimmed them down a bit to get some more speed back. Any bow sounds loud when your shooting it. Don't believe me? Have a buddy shoot yours while your 5-7 yds away and you'll be surprised at how quiet new bows are today. I've also found that the sims S-Coil stabilizer does wonders soaking up vibration. Moreso than many other higher priced models. To prove my point  just try this. Install the S-Coil then tap your riser fairly hard with your palm a few times. Do this enough util you get used to the vibes...Next install your "other" stablizer and do the same. You should be able to tell the diff right away.  I had an old Saunders tourque tamer and a new Nap shot blocker and both did a poor job of soaking up the small amount of  vibes put out by 101st. However once the S-Coil was on it was night and day. Plus the S-Coil is abt  20 bucks!  I did have to get used to the draw cycle of the 101st since UI was coming off from shoting the mission X3 which is essentially a  single cam mathews. I think alot of sigle cam guys nock the bowtechs for this very reason. The bowtech's aren't harsh at all, they have fully sealed bearings at both top and bottom and results in a silky smooth pull. What I think nay sayers are intimidated by is how the bowtech's stack up at the top of the valley unlike single cam bows. This causes a little jump or jerk at rollover but locks in rock solid at full draw. This isn't a harsh quality in my view, just a diff characteristic. I discovered a way to smooth out the end of the draw when it stacks up. Instead of using my arm & shoulder throughout the draw I focus on using my central back muscles and shoulder  for 70-80% of the draw cycle..IT WORKS...try it..your back really stabilizes your draw with these bows. With my mathews I didnt need my back at all involved in the draw but with the characteristics of the bowtech binary cams the back should be used more than the arm itself. After about 30 arows you'll be drawing as smooth as silk. As far as those little timing dots on your wheels my pro shop here in Columbus (largest bowtech dealer in Ohio) said to ignore them as they don't have any affect on the timing since the wheels are slaved together. Mine are a bit off and its does'nt affect my accuracy at all. As far as accuracy goes 90 percent of your prob is your rest and how its contacting your arrow at release and then your follw through..I had a QAD ultra rest on my 101st but I would get a flier every 3rd or 4th arrow. I notice by looking at my blazers that they were hitting the rest, after much experimentation and adj it just would'nt let the blazers clear. My pro shop buddy told me to install a limb driver. He uses it and all of the shop workers use one too. We put one on and it was paper tuned I kid you not in 5 minutes.....done.... no extra adj or tuning needed. Its also much quieter than the QAD and I'm getting all of my 80% let off back now too since its attached to the top limb instead off the buss cables like the QAD. Now I get 3-4 inch groups like nothing at 40 yds using my 400 axis 27 inch arrows, 29 inch draw @ 67lbs = 317fps. Guys I'm teling you I use my one pin sight out to 40 then hold halfway between shldr and back at 50 and top of back at 60. I have no prob now taking a shot out to 55-60yds. The 101st has the power and the right mix of features and design that no other bow has been able to give me while shooting. In summation the 101st is extremely accurate, fast and quiet. I demo-ed mathews, hoyt and PSE and chose the 101st when it was all said and done. I'm not knocking the others at all. Mathews was nice but I wanted more speed and kinetic energy  if I'm spending $700+. PSE Xforce had an unpleasant draw  but alot of power and was 900$. Hoyt I didnt like the thicker limbs and riser.
